Michael Saul of the Daily News reports - “Richard Ravitch, the 76-year-old lion of New York civic leaders and the state’s go-to guy in a crisis, Wednesday got the toughest assignment of his storied career.

Gov. Paterson named Ravitch the state’s lieutenant governor - a controversial move aimed at ending the month-long Senate stalemate that has made New York government a national laughingstock.

For Ravitch, the self-effacing grandson of Russian immigrants with a knack for problem-solving, the new gig is just the latest in a long line of public service stints that have come at the request of governors and a President.”
