New York State Labor Commissioner Colleen Gardner to present Keynote speech

The Business Council of New York State, Inc. will sponsor its annual “HR Legislative Conference” April 11 – 12 beginning at the Crown Plaza Albany on Monday and continuing at the Empire State Plaza on Tuesday.

The premier legislative and compliance event for Human Resource Professionals in New York State has expanded to include several sessions on New York state labor, human rights laws and how changes in federal health care legislation affect business. Participants will have an opportunity to hear the latest from the Labor Department directly from the event’s luncheon keynote speaker, New York State Department of Labor Commissioner, Colleen C. Gardner.

Expert presenters will address  unemployment insurance, human rights and health care issues. Program sessions will provide a “neutral ground” for participants to learn about the agencies programs, standards and procedures. The event also includes legislative visits with State lawmakers.

The briefings will feature topics including:

  • New York State Human Rights Law Today presented by John Herrion, director of disability rights at the New York State Division of Human Rights,
  • A Federal Labor Legislative Update by Franklin Goldberger, resident partner with Jackson Lewis, LLP,
  • Developments and Trends in New York Employment Law by John Bagyi, partner with Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC and
  • State and Federal Healthcare – Keep Your Head Down! by Maggie Moree, director of federal affairs with The Business Council of New York State, Inc.

The event begins Monday evening with a networking reception at the Crown Plaza Albany and is followed by morning and afternoon sessions on Tuesday, April 12, beginning at 8:00 a.m. in Meeting Room 1 of the Empire State Plaza.
