Spitz and Golub Named to Business Council Board of Directors

The Business Council of New York State Inc. Board of Directors elected two new directors at its July Board meeting. David Golub the Senior Vice President of Administration at the Golub Corporation/Price Chopper and James A. Spitz, Jr., CEO of Harris Beach, will each serve for terms ending in 2014.

“David and Jim both bring a multitude of experience to the board,” said Heather Briccetti, president and CEO of The Business Council. “These two extraordinary individuals will be a great asset to The Business Council as we work to create good jobs, strong communities and a more business-friendly New York.”

Mr. Golub joined Price Chopper in 1988. Prior to joining the company, he held positions with General Electric, GESCO Division, and National Lampoon Magazine.

He has held various positions throughout the Price Chopper organization that include Private Label Category Manager, Store Manager, Produce Specialist, Grocery/GM Specialist, Zone Director, Regional Vice President, Assistant to the Vice President of Store Operations, and Vice President, Operations. He currently serves as Sr. Vice President, Administration.

Mr. Golub sits on the board of New York State’s Food Industry Alliance, and is active on its Government Affairs Committee. He is a Director on the Albany Medical Center board, and serves on the Finance committee. Mr. Golub also serves as a Director on the Ayco Charitable Foundation board, and he is a Commissioner on the New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commission (Saratoga – Capital District Region).

He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from Adelphi University and an MBA in Marketing from NYU’s Stern School of Business.

James A. Spitz, Jr. is CEO of Harris Beach and a member of the firm. He serves on the Educational Institutions Industry Team and practices in the Labor and Employment Law Practice Group.

Selected as one of the Best Lawyers in America and listed in New York Super Lawyers, he focuses his practice in all areas of employee relations. A substantial portion of his practice involves representation of school districts on labor and employment issues as well as on general education, civil service and general municipal law matters.

Mr. Spitz is a member of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the New York State Bar Association and a member of the New York Association of Management Advocates for School Labor Affairs.

Mr. Spitz is currently President of the Keeping Education Extraordinary in Pittsford (KEEP) Foundation Board of Directors and has served as a member of the board since 1992.

He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Monroe Golf Club from 1991 to 1997 and was president in 1996 and 1997.  Mr. Spitz also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Rochester Friendly Home from 1983 to 1992.
