Apple and GlobalFoundries

Apple and GlobalFoundries have been in talks to work together according to U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) and a series of news reports.  Samsung currently makes a chip for Apple but the arrangement is set to be renegotiated in the near future. The Malta GlobalFoundries plant has the capacity to manufacture 60,000 wafers a month.  The reports speculate that a manufacturing partnership between Apple and GlobalFoundaries would be a major boost for the upstate economy. Silicon chips run all of today’s digital devices including computers, smartphones, mobile devices, medical equipment and defense systems
