On Thursday, May 5, 2011, fifty outstanding companies with operations in the State of New York were recognized for their human resources practices and employee satisfaction. The ranking of the winning companies was announced during the fourth annual Best Companies to Work for in New York awards dinner at the Albany Marriott

This annual statewide survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize and honor New York’s best places of employment that are benefiting the state’s economy, its workforce and businesses. In order to participate, companies had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements: have at least 15 employees in the state of New York; be a for-profit or not-for-profit business or government entity; be a publicly or privately held business; have a facility in the state of New York; and be in business for a minimum of one year.

Employers from across the state entered the two-part process. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking. Best Companies Group evaluated the data collected from the participating companies and used their expertise to determine the final rankings.

Best Companies to Work for in New York is a program of the New York State Society for Human Resource Management (NYS-SHRM) in partnership with The Business Council of New York and sponsored by Jackson Lewis, LLP.
