The Associated Press reports on wcax.com - “Gov. Andrew Cuomo has nominated consultants to top posts in the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, the state unit responsible for preparing for and responding to terrorism and disasters.

Jerome Hauer is tapped to be commissioner, with Steven Kuhr as executive deputy and director of the State Office of Emergency Management.

Hauer heads the Hauer Group, which provides emergency management consulting to public and private clients.

He is a former acting assistant secretary for the Office of Public Health Emergency Preparedness at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Kuhr is president of Strategic Emergency Group, which provides emergency and security consulting for clients including the state.

The division includes the Office of Counterterrorism and Office of Cyber Security.”

After Bronx Bomb Plot Was Thwarted, Gillibrand Urged Greater Federal Investment in Letter to Homeland Security Subcommittee

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced today that an additional $4 million dollars in federal anti-terror funding to help safeguard civil, religious and community institutions from terrorist attack will be included in the Homeland Security Appropriations Bill, for a total of $19 million in federal resources. Gillibrand requested the additional funds for The Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) non-profit program immediately after a bomb plot targeting two synagogues in the Bronx was thwarted. Funding last year for the non-profit program was an insufficient $15 million. In New York State alone, only 55 of 137 applications were able to receive any funding at all.
